Canada West Paddle Surf Fest - Surf Kayak Competition, Cox Bay, Tofino
The 5th annual Canada West Paddle Surf Fest was held in September 2006 at Cox Bay in Tofino, BC. It was a beautiful, hot, sunny day and paddlers from 17 and up tested their skill in the waves. Paddlers were judged on wave selection and take off, body of ride (surfs, spins, arials, linked moves), discretionary points and end moves. For someone who kayaks in the calm ocean it was very exciting to watch these kayakers rocking in the waves. It was a very cool group of people all having fun, encouraging each other and quite friendly to locals who didn't know a thing about surf kayaking (that would be me).
